KathleenLights and Colourpop Are Back At It!

Colourpop x KathleenLights haul: Alyssa, November, Mr. Bing, and Krinkle

Once more KathleenLights and Colourpop have teamed up again for a new collaboration! I was so excited when Kathleen announced that she was coming out with some new products with Colourpop! She ended up doing three new lip colors in Colourpop’s Ultra Satin lip finish, a creme gel color (potted eyeliner), and a creme gel liner. I ended up snagging two of the lip colors and the eyeliner pencil and I am just in love!

Colourpop: Alyssa, November, Mr. Bing, and Krinkle

I picked up the Ultra Satin lipsticks in Alyssa and November and the creme gel liner in Mr. Bing, as well as a Supershock shadow in Krinkle. (Not a collaboration item.) I have tried the ultra satin formula before and absolutely love it, so I knew I would love the lipsticks, but this was the first liner I had tried from Colourpop. I am so impressed with it! It glides on so smoothly, without any of the tugging or pulling that can sometimes happen with other eye liners, and it is quite long-wearing. I’m really itching to pick up a few more of their liners now after trying this one!

The eye shadow in Krinkle was just an impulse buy as I was about to check out. It’s a really pretty silver blue with lots of silver reflects in it. I’ve got this look in mind of a dark halo eye with this in the center. That’s definitely more of a special occasion look for me, so I don’t know how usable this shadow will be, but it’s fun!

The creme gel liner, Mr. Bing, is described as a rich warm brown in a matte finish. In the picture above I used it to line my upper lash line and my water line. I love how warm and rich the color is and it wears like a dream! I’m also wearing November on the lips. I actually posted this picture on Twitter and Kathleen retweeted it! Aaaahhh! Craziness! Let’s just say it made my day!

As you fellow Friends lovers might have picked up, this liner is indeed named after Chandler Bing, specifically from the scene where Monica is pretending she’s not sick and tries to seduce Chandler by calling for “Dr. Bing to the bedroom”. I cracked up when Kathleen explained the name for this one! Someone mentioned that if Kathleen does another collaboration with Colourpop, she should name something “Mrs. Chanandler Bong”. I would die laughing if that happened! Brilliant idea nameless person whose comment I happened to see on Instagram! I wish I could give you proper credit.

Alyssa is described as a dusty neutral pink. I love this shade as it’s a lovely everyday neutral color. It’s one of those that if you’re not sure what lip color to pick, just pick Alyssa because it will go with everything.

November is described as a mid-tone warm peachy pink. This is just the perfect pretty pink, which is something I was lacking in my collection oddly enough. I love how much life it brings to my face when I wear this shade.

That’s it for my Colourpop x KathleenLights haul! I hope you enjoyed and be sure to check out the Colourpop website as well as Kathleen’s Youtube channel. Colourpop is fast becoming one of my all-time favorite affordable brands.

I’ll see you soon in my next post! Have a great day!

Colourpop: 20% Off Haul

About a month ago Colourpop hosted a sitewide 20% off sale. Usually when I see a 20% off sale, I brush it off. I mean seriously, come back when you’re actually giving me a discount worth my time! Can you hear the tight wad in me? In Colourpop’s instance though, their products are already extremely inexpensive, so 20% off actually made a significant enough difference for me to go ahead and snag a few things I had had my eye on for a while!

I got five lip products with two being a matte formula, one of their new matte X formulas, and two ultra matte lips. From left to right:

Hype Girl has become my new favorite neutral lip! It is so creamy and smooth and I love the pigmentation. Colourpop has their lippie stix formula perfected. Heart On and Privacy Please are close seconds on my favorites of the order. I am all about a rich bright pink and Heart On definitely delivers.  I had never tried a rich plum pink color before, and I really like it on me! Privacy Please wears quite nicely. Barely There is a very vibrant coral, almost red color and it makes a great statement lip. The only lip product I was disappointed in was Are N Be and ironically it was the shade I was most excited to try. It is described as a rich mauve plum, but it’s a lot deeper in tone than what the websites photo depicted. It looks quite dark, almost black on my lips, which on my fair skin tone, is the first step to looking like a creature of the night. Not my look. Nope.

Four out five is not bad considering I wasn’t able to try any of the shades before I ordered them! I would like to caution you on the Ultra Matte formula if you have particularly dry lips. As with all liquid lipsticks that dry matte, it will be drying. It’s not painful on me, but I recommend putting on a lip oil or chapstick while you are doing your makeup and then you can wipe them away and put on the lipstick.

I also got three of their Supershock shadows. I have tried their shadows before and I absolutely love them! The texture is like nothing I’ve ever experienced with an eye shadow. They are soft and pillowy, and actually give a little when you touch them like a sponge.

From left to right:

I have been trying to incorporate more color into my eye looks lately so I decided to get this bright sky blue. I love to wear it on the lower lash as just a pop of color, which I think is so fun for spring and summer! Porter is part of the Where the Night Is collection created by KathleenLights, one of my all time favorite Youtube beauty gurus. In the pot it looks red-brown to me, but it has a lot of purple undertones in it. It looks really pretty on the eyes and I love the small flecks of shine in it. It really makes it pop on the eyes. This would particularly nice on green eyes. It is so beautiful! The last color is Wattles and I absolutely love putting this all over my lids and into my crease for a simple everyday eye. It has a lot of pink undertones, but it doesn’t make you look sickly. That always worries me with pink eye shadows. Nobody wants to look diseased! Wattles on the lid and Porter on the outer corner are a stunning combination. The colors play off of each other very well.

I only spent $33.60 for eight products, which is not too bad at all! I love how inexpensive Colourpop is. I’ve only gotten one product so far that I’m not crazy about and I’ve ordered from them several times before.

Izzy of course had to get in on the swatching action as I was finishing up shooting all the products. She is so gracefully modeling Privacy Please for your viewing pleasure. I just had to include this! If Izzy and Lailah come in while I’m doing my makeup they always want some too. Generally, I’ll just put some highlighter on their cheeks so they’ll be sparkly and they think it is just the coolest thing ever.

I hope you enjoyed this haul! Let me if you want to see these lip products on me and I can of course do another post about that. I hope you’re having a great day!

My Favorite Spring Lipsticks

My latest makeup craze has been all about lipsticks. I have fallen in love with rocking a lot of bold, bright colors that I think are perfect for the spring and summer time. They definitely put me in a springy mood at least! Bright lips are a perfect way to dress up a more neutral, casual eye makeup look, which has been a favorite look of mine here lately. On the other side of the spectrum though, I have a few colors that are more on the nude side which I love to pair with a bold cat eye and smokier eyeshadow looks. Then there are days when I just throw the makeup “rules” out the window and do that cat eye/bold lip combo. Le gasp! (I tried to do that in a snobby French accent, but I’m Texan so I don’t think I pulled it off) Seriously though, don’t be afraid to do what looks you love on yourself. Makeup is an art, not a series of strict rules to be followed. How boring would that be?!

Before we get started on my favorites, I want to talk about one of the most important steps that is often overlooked: moisturizing. Prepping your lips beforehand will make your lipsticks go on smoothly and look their absolute best and your lips are less likely to dry out during the day and look crackly. I personally use a lip scrub every couple of days. I haven’t tried any store brands to be able to recommend to you, but I make up my own lip scrub here at home as a cheaper alternative. It is a 1:1 ratio of coconut oil and sugar and it works so well for me!

For moisture I use either the Aquafor healing ointment or the new Milani moisture lock lip treatments. Milani has several different kinds and the one that I have been using is the rose hip one. I use the coconut scrub during my bedtime routine and put on the Milani lip treatment to wear overnight. When I do my makeup in the morning, I will put more of the Milani on and wipe it away once I’m ready to put on my lipsticks.

Now, onto the good stuff. I did swatches on my arm and tried the colors on to give you a better idea of what they look like. The tubes can be so misleading sometimes! I wish I could have full on smiled for these pics, but when I do my top lip almost disappears and then you can’t see the color very well…merp.

The products from left to right are:

  • Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Eastend Snob -$5.99
  • NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipstick in Babydoll -$6.99
  • Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park -$6.00
  • Tarte Lipsurgance lip creme in Wonder (sample) -$24.00 for full-size
  • Too Faced Melted lipstick in Melted Melon -$21.00
  • Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick in Radish (sample) -$26.00 for full-size
  • Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in The Rabbit -$6.00
  • Urban Decay Revolution lip gloss in Anarchy -$14.00
  • Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in Backstage Bambi -$20.00

This is the Rimmel liner with the NYX Babydoll over the top. The NYX is too nude for my personal taste, so I pair it with a nice pink liner all over my lips to add some life to it.

This is the Colourpop Ultra Satin lipstick in Echo Park. This one is a bit more of a warm brown, pinky nude. This is my go to everyday lip color.

This is the Tarte Lipsurgance in Wonder. This one is a nice almost watermelon/strawberry pink that is opaque and does not have extreme neon or bright pink tones. So if you’re uncomfortable with extremely loud lip colors, this would be a good one to check out!

This is the Too Faced Melted lipstick in Melted Melon. It is, in my opinion, the perfect blend of coral and pink. I had been searching for a coraly pink for awhile and was thrilled when I found this! This just screams summer to me!

This is the Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick in Radish. This is a deep hot pink and I am absolutely in love with it! It smells exactly like a red starburst candy and I just want to eat it. Technically I could since Bite Beauty uses all-natural ingredients for their lipsticks, but it probably wouldn’t taste very good…so I won’t…maybe.

This is the Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in The Rabbit. This is another vibrant hot pink with more of a cool-toned blue base. Another absolute favorite of mine! Plus the Ultra Satin formula feels so nice on the lips.

This is the Urban Decay Revolution lip gloss in Anarchy. It’s not as opaque as the lipsticks, naturally, but it does have pretty good color payoff for a gloss. Can you tell I like bright pink lips yet?! This application was pretty messy and I was talking to my husband and forgot to take my headphones out…fail.

This is the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in Backstage Bambi. This is another cool-toned bright pink that is a little more pink and less violet than The Rabbit. This is most certainly not an everyday lip color, but I tend to put it on a lot anyway. It makes me feel like I put in a lot more effort with my makeup than I actually did.

My husband was just over my shoulder looking at all the colors and his personal favorites on me were both of the Colourpop shades, which are actually the cheapest of all these lipsticks. He also really liked the Tarte one. Just in case you were wondering. I really enjoyed doing this post. Makeup is a bit of an obsession for me. I hope you enjoyed it as well!

Let me know what your favorite spring lipsticks are! Do you prefer a bright, bold lip or a more muted color?
