Since I became a mother a little over 4 years ago my whole life changed. Having children is a huge blessing and a huge adjustment. Our lives are really just a series of adjustments though from leaving your parent’s home and setting out on your own, then to marriage and then, if you so choose, children. I’ve always loved doing my makeup, but I was pretty much a minimalist because my job involved a lot of sweating and hard work so there wasn’t much point to putting too much time into it.
I’ve adapted my teenage makeup routine to my everyday “mom” look, a.k.a my minimalist approach, on days where I can’t take the time to go full glam or I’m just plain not in the mood for it. My main focus is to brighten and smooth my complexion a bit without a full face of makeup and to make my eyes look brighter. Here’s the before and after:
Here are the products I used:
- Lancome Miracle CC Cushion – Pinky Peach ($39.50)
- Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Concealer – Light Neutral ($28.00)
- Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Setting Powder – ($33.00)
- Benefit Air Patrol BB Cream Eyelid Primer – ($29.00)
- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – ($23.00)
- The BrowGal Clear Brow Gel – ($20.00)
- Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette – ($52.00)
- Colourpop Ultra Satin Lipstick – Echo Park ($6.00)
I applied everything in the order I listed above. I still go in with a color correcting primer under my eyes on minimal makeup days because I’m fairly self-conscious of my under eye circles and the pigmentation in my cheeks. The CC Cushion does a fantastic job of cancelling my under eye circles and it smooths my skin a bit like a primer before I go in with my concealer.
I draw the concealer in a V under my eyes and blend with my damp Real Techniques sponge. Then I set both of those with a setting powder so I don’t have any creasing going on.
Next I put on my eye primer mainly to cancel my eyelid veins, which really helps to brighten and lift my eyes. I then set the primer with my setting powder again, which also acts as a smoothing powder.
Then I put on my mascara, brush through my brows with my clear gel so they don’t get too crazy throughout the day. I got this brow gel in my May Boxycharm (referral link) which was super lucky since I had just run out of my other brow gel. Winning! I use the blush Amaretto every day because it adds just the perfect amount of color on minimal days. If you would like to see swatches of it check out this post. I like to top it all off with a nude lip on my easy peasy days.
I used this hair tutorial from The Small Things Blog. I love her tutorials so much! They are so easy to follow and to recreate. If I want to do something aside from a ponytail, I go over to Kate’s site for some inspiration. I’ve used her tutorials for a couple of years now. I recommend y’all check her out if you haven’t heard of her before.
That’s it for my everyday, minimal Mom makeup. It’s easy and quick and it makes me feel fresh and put together, which always makes me more awake and productive. Enjoy!
