My Favorite Spring Lipsticks

My latest makeup craze has been all about lipsticks. I have fallen in love with rocking a lot of bold, bright colors that I think are perfect for the spring and summer time. They definitely put me in a springy mood at least! Bright lips are a perfect way to dress up a more neutral, casual eye makeup look, which has been a favorite look of mine here lately. On the other side of the spectrum though, I have a few colors that are more on the nude side which I love to pair with a bold cat eye and smokier eyeshadow looks. Then there are days when I just throw the makeup “rules” out the window and do that cat eye/bold lip combo. Le gasp! (I tried to do that in a snobby French accent, but I’m Texan so I don’t think I pulled it off) Seriously though, don’t be afraid to do what looks you love on yourself. Makeup is an art, not a series of strict rules to be followed. How boring would that be?!

Before we get started on my favorites, I want to talk about one of the most important steps that is often overlooked: moisturizing. Prepping your lips beforehand will make your lipsticks go on smoothly and look their absolute best and your lips are less likely to dry out during the day and look crackly. I personally use a lip scrub every couple of days. I haven’t tried any store brands to be able to recommend to you, but I make up my own lip scrub here at home as a cheaper alternative. It is a 1:1 ratio of coconut oil and sugar and it works so well for me!

For moisture I use either the Aquafor healing ointment or the new Milani moisture lock lip treatments. Milani has several different kinds and the one that I have been using is the rose hip one. I use the coconut scrub during my bedtime routine and put on the Milani lip treatment to wear overnight. When I do my makeup in the morning, I will put more of the Milani on and wipe it away once I’m ready to put on my lipsticks.

Now, onto the good stuff. I did swatches on my arm and tried the colors on to give you a better idea of what they look like. The tubes can be so misleading sometimes! I wish I could have full on smiled for these pics, but when I do my top lip almost disappears and then you can’t see the color very well…merp.

This is the Rimmel liner with the NYX Babydoll over the top. The NYX is too nude for my personal taste, so I pair it with a nice pink liner all over my lips to add some life to it.

This is the Colourpop Ultra Satin lipstick in Echo Park. This one is a bit more of a warm brown, pinky nude. This is my go to everyday lip color.

This is the Tarte Lipsurgance in Wonder. This one is a nice almost watermelon/strawberry pink that is opaque and does not have extreme neon or bright pink tones. So if you’re uncomfortable with extremely loud lip colors, this would be a good one to check out!

This is the Too Faced Melted lipstick in Melted Melon. It is, in my opinion, the perfect blend of coral and pink. I had been searching for a coraly pink for awhile and was thrilled when I found this! This just screams summer to me!

This is the Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick in Radish. This is a deep hot pink and I am absolutely in love with it! It smells exactly like a red starburst candy and I just want to eat it. Technically I could since Bite Beauty uses all-natural ingredients for their lipsticks, but it probably wouldn’t taste very good…so I won’t…maybe.

This is the Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in The Rabbit. This is another vibrant hot pink with more of a cool-toned blue base. Another absolute favorite of mine! Plus the Ultra Satin formula feels so nice on the lips.

This is the Urban Decay Revolution lip gloss in Anarchy. It’s not as opaque as the lipsticks, naturally, but it does have pretty good color payoff for a gloss. Can you tell I like bright pink lips yet?! This application was pretty messy and I was talking to my husband and forgot to take my headphones out…fail.

This is the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in Backstage Bambi. This is another cool-toned bright pink that is a little more pink and less violet than The Rabbit. This is most certainly not an everyday lip color, but I tend to put it on a lot anyway. It makes me feel like I put in a lot more effort with my makeup than I actually did.

My husband was just over my shoulder looking at all the colors and his personal favorites on me were both of the Colourpop shades, which are actually the cheapest of all these lipsticks. He also really liked the Tarte one. Just in case you were wondering. I really enjoyed doing this post. Makeup is a bit of an obsession for me. I hope you enjoyed it as well!

Let me know what your favorite spring lipsticks are! Do you prefer a bright, bold lip or a more muted color?
