Blackened Salmon

I love to get salmon when we go out to eat, but it is sure pricey, so I wanted to bring the restaurant-style blackened salmon home with me at a better price and I got it. This blackening season mix gives it just the right amount of kick and wonderful flavor, plus you can control the calories by cooking it in healthy fats like olive or coconut oil instead of butter. Another great thing about fish is that you can thaw it out in under five minutes, which is what I usually do. All you need is a sink and hot water and it will thaw out in a snap, which is great when you’re pressed for time. If you microwaved a couple of baked potatoes wrapped in saran wrap for about 10-12 minutes and had some veggies steaming while you prepare the salmon, then you can easily put a delicious and healthy home-cooked dinner on the table in 15 minutes.

Blackened Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets
  • olive or coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1/2 tbsp cayenne
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay

Heat about 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Mix all the spices in a small bowl and then rub it onto both sides of the salmon.  Cook the fillets until the fish turns white and becomes flaky, about 7 minutes. Enjoy!
